PARA and Ol’ colony golf welcome a new club house

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority’s Ol’ Colony Golf will celebrate the grand opening of a new club house on April 13-14. The facility, complete with all the modern conveniences to ensure a great day at the golf course, includes a fully stocked golf shop and diner. The event is free and open to the public.

The official ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 13.  A brief program will include refreshments. Dr. Nesmith’s Friendship Golf Tournament and Alabama Discount Golf’s Demo Day begin after the ceremony.

Head professional John Gray states, “We invite you to join us for a great day of golf, visit with new and familiar staff, try some new clubs, and enjoy a spring day.” Each day of the grand opening includes door prize drawings and demo day activities from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

“Golf enthusiasts of all ages welcome and appreciate the commitment to excellence and value that Ol’ Colony brings to the sport for golfers from Tuscaloosa and beyond,” said Gray. “The facility continues to receive many outstanding revues from those that play this challenging course,” he said.

The dream of a championship public golf course for Tuscaloosa was realized with the opening of Ol’ Colony in the year 2000.  In seven short years it has emerged as a top-quality course with national recognition. Today, the Jerry Pate designed course is a beautiful asset of PARA.

###

Ol’ Colony Golf Complex offers premier golf at an affordable price.  Named one of the "Top 5 Best New Public Courses in America" by Golf Digest (2001), Ol’ Colony Golf Complex certainly lives up to its reputation.  This Jerry Pate designed course is considered one of the best public courses, not only in Alabama, but also in the nation.
The 18-hole course has rolling hills and is heavily wooded with tall pines and soaring oaks.  It’s sure to test even the most advanced golfer with large bunkers, mature trees, and water hazards that will challenge every shot, including a 25-acre lake. Another 18-holes, already designed by Pate, will be a welcome addition in the coming years.

All carts are equipped with GPS systems, providing golfers a preview of the course layout, yardage and pro tips.  The GPS system also features promotions on each hole, including area businesses as well specials at Ol’ Colony’s pro shop and the opportunity to order lunch from the Ol’ Colony Café as you finish your rounds.

Ol' Colony Golf Complex opened to much acclaim in December 2000 on 597 acres that was once a farm plantation for a mental institution named Boy's Colony.  The property, long abandoned by the institution, was tapped the perfect site for a course by the Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority.  In 2005, the University of Alabama golf teams made Ol’ Colony their home course and their practice facility is on premises.  A premium driving range and scenic 18-holes make this course a must play!
